Best in Show

So a few weeks ago, I competed in this thing called "Teen Stylin'" which was hosted by VMFA (Virginia Museum of Fine Arts). It's something I'd been working on since October, and the show was recently. The objective of the workshop, was to create a garment based off of a piece of art in the museum and use alternative materials to create it. I got the crazy awesome 'Yamantaka' sculpture. It's this huge, monster of a sculpture (literally) And it's literal translation is 'Defeater of Death'. This obviously convinced me to make a bad-ass warrior goddess my beautiful friend Savannah embodied perfectly!
The materials I used included tyvec, rat wire, Cork board, beads, clothes pins, coffee filters, faux leather and an old jacket I dyed (by hand-nightmare!). It was such an amazing experience and when I won I broke down in tears like any other emotionally charged teenage girl would.
But as a prize, 5 other lucky boys and girls along with myself have won a fabulous trip to New York City during Spring break!!
I have to go hyperventilate now!

School started yesterday, and so my junior year begins. I'm taking all these crazy classes, PLUS cross country after school. I have no idea how all that is going to play out, but we shall see. So far though, i'm feeling pretty good about everything. More to come soon!

A supermodel gossip girl who's coverd in stardust.

So latley i've been having fantasies about gorgeous girls all done up in dramatic gowns with over the top dramatic folds, pleats and swirls on the skirts that would billow and move and swirl at the slightlest movement. I think this whole "fantasy" ( i feel dirty using that word, i'm such a granny) /love triagle thing started when I got all obsessed with Stardust.
You know that part when the witch (whose name i still don't know) is stading on the windy grassy hill, and her dress is billowing everywhere and it just looks like it's dancing? Yeah well I died becasue it was just great. and beautiful. If you don't remember, or just don't know what i'm talking about, here you are
I actually couldn't find any on the hill, but you get the idea. It's pathetic how helpless I am when it comes to technology, so i'm pretty pleased with myself that I got this far. And i'm about to drop the Gossip Girl bomb, so shut up.
HEY KIDDIES! remember this?
I just really love the idea of running around the city all done up and having the time of your life with your best friend.
check around the :30, 1:53 and 2:50 second mark to see what i'm talking about. Coco's basically the coolest person ever...because i know her and everything.
ANYWAY, I would've posted the actual video, but i...um...don't know how.
The editorias that go along with the sketches don't look aything like what i see in my mind...i guess you could use them as alternative visuals? But don't think i'm a copycat, please!
Once I get good enough, i'd love to make a gown like this...it's the perfect mixture of simple and dramatic. I thought this would look really pretty on my friend Savannah. She has the prettiest mixture of strawberry blonde hair, freakles and blue eyes that would be really pretty in either a powder blue or mint green of this gown.
This would be really great on Lauren. She has really long dirty blond hair and brown eyes. (Don't pay attetion to the editiorial above, It's nothing like I imagine it in real life; it's way to stiff and structured. I just thought the way the neckline is on the sketch was similar)
Hi Melissa! Hiiii! Yeah so Melissa has really curly dark brown (practically black) hair down to the middle of her back- With dark brown eyes and really tan skin...I don't know if she's italian or not. She should be.
I thought a really soft yellow would set off her hair'skin'eyes combo really well.
I havn't drawn one for me yet but once i do, all of the sketches in my sketchbook can run around the City looking fab, and super cool together while the me and my friends can pretend.

Lets Start Over

Hi everyone, i'm Caroline, the creep behind the screen. I've been into fashion for the past 5 or 6 years or so, but as of late have i been completly blinded by it. I love to sew and sketch and all the things involved with design...just like everyone else with a fashion blog these days. I'm not really expecting this blog to go any where crazy, i think i'm just going to keep it as a style journal, you know? I already keep all of my crazy crap about my personal life in a regular journal so why not some place to put all of my thoughts about style, fashion, all that. This will probably won't even last that long considering i have the attention span of a nine year old on chritmas morning. But i'm thinking this is somthing good to do during christmas break so we'll see how it goes. I hope this'll be a good thing. Anyway, until next time. Caroline
